Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026: Securing the Next 250
October brings cooler weather, pumpkin-flavored everything, and (hopefully) increased awareness of cybersecurity practices! Join us for a month of information to help improve your security, protect yourself, and strengthen your organization.

Once again, we'll be celebrating Cybersecurity Awareness Month by sharing tips and information each week aligned with the key themes identified by the U.S. Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Key Topics
In honor of America's semiquincentennial (say that 5 times fast), the theme of Cybersecurity Awareness Month for 2026 is Securing the Next 250! We'll be digging into the topics identified by CISA as critical for ensuring individuals and organizations remain cybersecure. Each week, we'll share a post on one of the following topics:
Cover Down on the Basics: Even as technologies evolve, foundational cybersecurity practices still go a long way in shielding against threats! Start by learning about the crucial impact of identifying and avoiding phishing scams, creating strong passwords, setting up multi-factor authentication, and regularly updating software!
Level Up Your Defenses: Once you've gotten the basics down, organizations can improve their security by implementing additional mechanisms such as system logging, data backups, and encryption. Taking these steps will help protect your information, assist you in investigating issues, and ensure your data isn't gone forever if something goes awry!
Go the Distance: Continue building on your progress with further practices to harden organizational IT environments! Develop an incident response plan (and actually use it) and prepare for system disruptions—regardless of whether they're malicious or simply because the intern spilled coffee on the server rack.
The 3Rs of Cybersecurity: These topics have been identified as pivotal to protecting critical infrastructure, and they're just as important for organizations of any size! Reduce attack surfaces, Replace end-of-support devices, and Recover quickly to sustain operations. Learn how you can adopt the practices and why they're so important!
Tag Along for Cyber Awareness!
Each week of October, follow along with our posts about one of these areas to help you build and maintain strong cybersecurity habits! Can't wait until then? Access CISA's quick tips sheet including recommendations for individuals, families, and organizations: Cybersecurity Quick Tips.
